The Big Apple

Apple is pretty much the best thing that has happened to computers!!! I come from a family of computer illiterate parents which means the genes were passed down to me. Thanks to Apple I can now use a computer at any time without being afraid to hit the bottons. The innovations that apple has come up with have changed my way of thinking for sure when it comes to technology. apple is on top of the ball with the ipod and now with the new iphone. Who knows what they’ll come up with next. All I have to say is when they do, I’ll be there wanting one with the rest of the world.

New vs. Old

I hate the term new and old because I feel like a lot of the time we depreciate the value of something when we refer to it as old. The technology that we have come up with over the past coupld decades have been encredible and to say that some have become somewhat old is sad to me. Those old technologies made the new ones possible by creating a stepping stone in which to build a house of technology on. I think instead we should call them originals or the original. It may sound dumb but at least it doesn’t make the technology sound like it’s nothing more than a piece of junk now. For instance, the computers that were created in the 1970’s by all means are not what we use today but the created the base for us to build on. Camera’s too are one of the most amazing technologies that have been transformed and reformed into a digital realm. The basic principals are the same, the technology on how to perform those principals is what has changed.

The Bell Curve

In class I did a self diagnosis and found out that I am towards the end of the bell curve not by choice but by financial handicaps that have formed in my life. I love technology, and if I had the money to buy things that I wanted I would have new stuff all the time. I think of myself as more of a watcher though instead of an instant buyer. I am in the late majority for sure but only because I financially can’t afford to buy things. For instance, I have wanted an ipod ever since they came out with them but I have never gotten one until this year… but the kicker is, I didn’t even buy it, it was a birthday present for me. In some ways I may be an early majority because I have had my apple iBook for 4 years now. I have noticed that at Lee we didn’t really have a lot of mac users until this past year. I was so excited cause I could help other people figure out the apple software and answer questions because I had used a mac for years. If money wasn’t an option I would for sure be in the Early majority. I’m not brave enough to be in the early adoptors because there are too many bugs that happen in the first generation on new technologies that come out. I would rather pay money for something that has great capabilities without all the risks of losing too much money if it malfunctions.

“Why am I doing this”

Interesting question. Why am I doing this whole blogging thing. I’ve never blogged before really so this is all new to me. I guess it’s kind of like journaling in a way, except for the fact that everyone in the world gets to see what I write. Bottom line I would have never done this if I were not in a class that required it, but I do hope to broaden my vision on the whole blog world through this class. I hope to understand why people spend hours writing thoughts in hopes that someone else would come along and respond in an encouraging thoughtful way. I, on the other hand don’t know what kind of response I’m looking for. I guess this is a way to open me up to a new way of thinking about technology. The mear fact that people can publish their own thoughts and ideas without having to go through the loop wholes of society to be heard is kind of cool. I would love to be one who would write such a piece that would change the thinking of the people within my technological reach. That’s why I’m doing this.
